This stands out as very different in a blind tasting, as it's so lifted and light, both in colour and in body. It's more red fruited than black with a tinge of warm spices and cinnamon and a little green streak. At only 12% ABV, it's charting a different course to many a traditional Fitou, and I'm intrigued to follow along the journey. Grenache and Carignan are macerated together as whole bunches in a tronconic wooden tank, with very very light extraction (only one or two punch downs and one pump over, followed by a soft and slow press. Matured for seven months in fifth-use barrels. No added sulphur. From the coastal part of the appellation.
