Gorgeous deep and dark cherry notes, the brownish rim gives away its age but on the palate you wouldn't think it's 12 years' old. It has a lovely texture and body, juicy rich red and black fruit, cherry, blackcurrant and some strawberry sweetness you get from the acidity on the mid-palate. There are touches of leather and coffee but only subtle and masked by the fruit still at this point. Nice grippy tannins and a long finish. This has far more weight, intensity and flavour than many of the following years (2009, 10 and 11) so I wasn't expecting there to be much life left but this is really delicious.
