For Origine, Nicolas Raffy blends 100-year-old concrete-aged Grenache with 70-year-old Carignan and young Syrah. It’s a wine which certainly needs longer to evolve and unfold; for the time being, the scents combine red and black fruits with the savoury warmth of dusty stones. On the palate it’s a richer, more deeply textured wine than Légende, though the acidity is barely less driving and resonant. Magnificent tannins and liquorice spice lend the fruits grandeur.
