After several changes of ownership, the 7ha Château de Suronde was bought by Kathleen Van den Berghe in 2016. It is one of the leading estates in the small Quarts de Chaume appellation – the Loire’s only grand cru. The estate complements Château de Minière, which she bought in 2010. Surone has 5ha in the Quarts de Chaume, but due to the current difficulty in selling sweet wine, some 80% of the production is now dry white with only a small amount of Quarts de Chaume made. 

The yield for 2017 was 15 hl/ha. With 115g/l of residual sugar, this complex wine has a wonderfully opulent honey and apricot texture, with great balance of fruit and lively acidity. It can be drunk now but will live for decades.
