In the Camargue – where the Rhône river spreads out through reed beds and marshes to reach the Mediterranean – Chardonnay may not be the most obvious choice of grape variety, and this wine presents a slightly atypical result. Perfumed, floral aromas with notes of garrigue, orange peel and red apples. Intensely honeyed oak on the palate, evolving into yellow peaches that are sweet, juicy, perfumed, elegant and concentrated with beautiful acidity that cuts through the ripe peach fruit like a hot knife through butter. Oak is clearly providing structure, leading to a saline minerality on the finish. But it is the ripe perfumed fruit which remains the dominant note resulting in a wine which is a real pleasure to drink.
