Caladoc (a crossing of Grenache and Malbec) is an increasingly popular variety in northwest Provence, with its disease and drought resistance and its ability to provide freshness in a blend, and here it seems to give fresh structure to the blend with an almost ethereal elegance. A lighter touch with the maceration, including some carbonic maceration, gives an almost fruit bomb richness of raspberry and strawberry jam, juicy blackcurrants and blackberries which revel in the vanillin sweetness of the oak. Fresh and still youthful, there is added complexity with whispers of smoke and sweet leather and charmingly balanced structural tannins.
