This organic estate has been owned by the Constant family since 1288, and now consists of 39ha spread across five locations. Raymond and Jeanne Constant built their modern cellar in 1970. Their grandsons Julien (viticulture) and Vincent (vinification) have now joined their father Alain, together moving the style from powerfully tannic wines to more accessible, modern-style Bandols. About a third of the vineyard area is centenarian vines, which contribute fruit to the old-vine cuvée Le Falun, named for the well-draining soils of shelly sand sediments. The reds are matured in large, neutral oak tuns for a minimum of 22 months. Elizabeth Gabay MW: Floral, black fruit and spicy aromas. Blue flowers and black fruit on the palate, with vibrant acidity and mouth-watering elegance. Stunning. What more can a wine do? Beatrice Bessi: Fresh, crunchy red fruit: raspberry and cherry. A delicate herbal layer, mint, rose petal. A glossy texture and a hint of sweetness. A modern approach. Poppy de Courcy-Wheeler: Lightly exuberant nose of dark fruits, menthol and garrigue. Lovely intensity on the palate and a persistent finish.
