Located at the foot of the Hermitage hillside, Cave de Tain is a co-operative which produces wines from Hermitage, Crozes-Hermitage, St-Joseph, Cornas and St-Péray. Founded in 1933, today its members farm over 1,000ha of vineyards, including 21ha in Hermitage. The Grand Classique is made from vines situated on granite terraces, with the grapes undergoing a short, cold pre-fermentation maceration. The wine sees 18 months of ageing in 228l and 400l barrels before release.

Christian Honorez: Intense and dense nose; juicy and complex palate with roasted meat and mineral notes. Some graphite and saltiness, a touch of dryness too.
Tanguy Martin: Mature and evolved, with aromas of sweet spices. The palate is generous and vibrant, full of fresh fruits but concentrated. Great acidity overall and a long finish.
Matt Walls: Nice sense of purity and freshness on the nose, still appearing very young. Full and rich, but with a good sense of straightness, and exceptional tannic finesse. Very long, very straight finish. Remarkable length. Needs time, but will be very good indeed.
