Pierre Clape still clearly remembers the disastrous 1993 vintage. 'All went well until the end of August, everyone was happy,' he says. Then a storm came, followed by another eight days later. This was followed by fog and rain for the whole of September, leading to rot, flooding and dilution. It's certainly into its fully mature phase now, still holding together but only just. Not terribly long, and the fruit is starting to dry out. Nonetheless it does still hold some intellectual interest if not much hedonistic pleasure.
