Six years old and just getting to the full expression of the Rhône, exotic spices and dried herbs. You can feel the heat of summer sun but the fruit remains savoury and moreish, more balanced than some southern Rhônes with a floral edge that is almost St Joseph in feel. Blackberry, leather, smoke and liquorice, with clear Syrah perfume. Bottle unfiltered and unfined, from an estate at 350m in altitude in foothills of La Lance, and this height perhaps accounts for the juicy balance that runs through the wine. Certified organic also. Gets better after three hours of opening, always a sign of a wine that is worth taking seriously.
