This was made ‘to see what fresh Ventoux Syrah can offer', says owner and winemaker Matthieu Ponson. It’s very much a southern Rhône Syrah – it has the intensity, the sweet fruit, the slightly warming alcohol and a touch of cassis. There is a note of liquorice and bay leaf too. The oak feels present but integrated. It's a concentrated style that will gain complexity with age. From a terraced vineyard at 300m altitude, 50-year-old vines grown on limestone and clay limestone. Fermented in stainless steel, aged for 18 months in 450-litre Chassin barrels.
