Thomas Farge took over the estate from his father earlier in 2018. This is the first vintage of a new special cuvée by this stellar domaine, and it's brilliant! It's from 30-year-old vines planted on granite, hand-picked with yields of just 20hl/ha, all whole-bunch. It's matured in new 400l oak barrels for 12 months. Tasted blind it's the definition of Cornas - that nose... the entwined herbs, spices and dark fruits. It flows across your palate, its intense fruit joined by juicy berry acidity and tight, fine-grained tannins right into the long finish. The oak is subsumed by the fruit, and it has a beautiful sense of harmony and freshness. Really drinkable - a stunning success for a maiden vintage.
