If your guests insist on having a bottle of Châteauneuf-du-Pape on the table this winter and you don't have time to pop into a wine merchant, then this bold, red- and black-fruited, earthy wine will do. Can you do better? Absolutely. But if you're short on time and just need a bottle in your trolley then this is a fairly standard – if over-priced – representation, with reasonable tannic structure and balancing acidity.
