Deep, dark, opaque black/red in colour. It smells like squished blackberries, black olive and cherry compote. It's rich, verging on jammy in aroma. The palate is large, full of flavour, with lots of ripe fruit. The fruit is quite pure, although there is a spice and cinnamon dusting, a little vanilla and clove, and it's warm, soft and ripe. The alcohol is high, but the flavour does keep it in check. It has intensity, it has depth, it has complexity of fruit and garrigue. It just doesn't quite have enough edge, bite or acidity to up the score. Try with slow-cooked lamb. This bottling, Une Bouteille à la Mer, is a collaboration with an ocean charity and €1 from every bottle sold is donated to Fondation de la Mer.
