Alain Rotier was one of the first winemakers I visited on moving to France in 2003, and I have always enjoyed the extremely unusual Len de l'El (or Loin de L'Oeil) variety, so I was happy to see this wine in the line up. Gaillac is one of the historical homes of acacia barrel use, and here you get a smoky straw and honeysuckle edge. Its honey and spice flavours are unusual, but it has a good grip and fills out through the palate.The Sauvignon Blanc is undoubtedly a good addition to this wine, lifting the frame of the wine as Len de l'El  is not particularly high in natural acidity.
