Still somewhat restrained and closed, but the depth and subtle finesse are detectable. The aromas of mallow blossoms, dark cherries and black pepper are delicately brought out, and the spices from ageing in small oak barrels with coffee and toast are just working their way in. The wine takes advantage of the cool vintage for a lean appearance. The tannins are fine, almost sandy, and the acidity is powerful. A style full of tension. There was no Wildenstein produced in 2021, which was the first time since the inaugural 2004 vintage, and Bernhard Huber only made a GG Spätburgunder from the encompassing Bienenberg (Wildenstein is a small parcel within). Winemaker Julian Huber, Bernhard's son, handled it very well, given the difficult vintage conditions.
