Compared to the Wildenstein, the Schlossberg is much more open yet also more challenging. By reducing whole-cluster fermentation and the proportion of new wood in the ageing process over the past few years, Julian Huber has allowed the terroir to shine: pencil shavings, graphite, and smoky notes are underpinned by cold coffee, dried mallow blossom, and black cherry jelly. The tannins are silky, and the finish is reminiscent of a Formula 1 racing car.
