The Salwey Winery in the Kaiserstuhl region is run by Konrad Salwey. Year after year, he demonstrates his ability to bring out the very best in Pinot Gris. The 2023 vintage from the Henkenberg vineyard, with its volcanic soils, has now been released. Here, Salwey once again impressively demonstrates that Pinot Gris can be so much more than just pleasing fruitiness and smoothness. It is a wine with a distinct character, pleasantly unadorned and almost ‘low-intervention’ in style. Peach stone, slightly tart fruit and a subtle phenolic spice give it definition. It never becomes heavy, but maintains its tension and remains consistently precise.
