Hardly any other winery can point to a longer Silvaner history than the Fürstlich Castell’sche Domänenamt. The first Silvaner vines were planted in Castell in 1659. And the Schlossberg monopole site takes centre stage. Here, Silvaner manages to bring out all the nuances of its origin. Short skin contact, spontaneous fermentation and ageing in large oak barrels give the wine very complex flavours. Caro Maurer MW: Starts with a subtle hint of spice from ageing in oak barrels, combined with pure fruit of green apple and citrus, all underpinned by a ripe but crisp acidity. Impressive intensity. Still young. Svetoslav Manolev MS: Very fine and elegant nose with ripe orchard and citrus fruits, nectarine. Palate is balanced with subtle, well integrated oak. Marcel Orford-Williams: Lots of wine here, and this has richness and weight. A great effort from the Silvaner grape.
