Founded in 1902 as a Royal Prussian Domaine, and owned by the Reidel family since 2009, the producer owns 30ha of vineyards across seven vineyards in Nahe, including 12ha in the Kupfergrube (‘copper mine’) Grosses Gewächs site. This 2018 Reserve Riesling was sourced from the volcanic, south-facing terraces. Aged on the lees in wooden vats for 12 months, followed by further maturation under cork for roundness and depth. Caro Maurer MW: Great range of aromas, ripe stone fruit and smokiness. Time has woven all components tightly together, the warm vintage expressing itself in fruit sweetness. Mark Dearing: Well-judged reduction adds layers of herb and spice to this rounded, glossy wine. Clear character, finessed acidity – broad shouldered but very good. Stefan Neumann MS: Dried orange peel, grapefruit and lime, some peachy character with a delicate honey note. Sweet mango and lychee touches and a spicy undertone.
