Eli Ben Zaken, the patriarch of the Israeli wine scene, has fashioned a delicious Rhône blend of Syrah and Carignan. The first inhalation is completely about bay leaf. On the palate, this cool herbal quality follows through, though there's a mounting earthiness and black pepper character. It's quite stemmy and sappy, but in a good way. A thoughtful and reflective wine for the cellar.
