The iconic elegant style of Maffini doesn't disappoint here: the Aglianico is sourced from 25-year-old vines from Castellabate on clay and limestone soil with sand. The must is aged in partly new French oak barrels for 12 months. Graphite, smoky tones and iodine are combined with a restrained dark fruit aroma. The attack is smooth, with a chewy mid-palate and chalkier finish. There is the obvious solarity of Cilento, which indeed imparts grace to the power of Aglianico. Great depth; greater with ageing.
