A very good Taurasi from the villages of Montemarano and Paternopoli within Irpinia. Aglianico here is sourced from old vines of between 36 and 53 years of age, destemmed, crushed and cold macerated before fermentation, which occurs not above 26°C. The must is then aged in traditional 35hL botti with a small proportion of barriques for 18 months. Tantalising freshness of thyme, subtle cassis and earthy darkness with balsamic depth is supported by a chewy, lively palate with firm, extracted tannins. Austere but without any dryness, it's balanced by incredibly good concentration. Liquorice and coffee flavours on the finish.
