A brand-new wine for Claudio Alario: the family had the opportunity to buy a one-hectare southwest-facing plot at the top of the coveted Cerretta hill, and they sealed the deal just in time for winter pruning. It is on the dense and structured side for 2022. The intense, savoury nose exhibits grilled bay leaf, dried thyme and dark currants. It is sinewy in muscle rather than fruity; its taut, grainy tannins shore up blue and black fruits, while balsamic herbs, vanilla and a touch of creosote reverberate through to the finish. This needs time to digest its wood and settle into its intrinsic architecture.
