Contratto cellars are among the so-called ‘underground cathedrals’ of Canelli, due to the infinite tunnels dug under the town (a World Heritage Site), where millions of bottles of sparkling wine rest. Right here, the first vintage Italian sparkling wine was produced in 1919. The Rivetti family (La Spinetta) has owned the winery since 2011, and has planted Pinot Noir and Chardonnay vineyards in the municipality of Bossolasco. This iconic label, initially dosed as ‘Dry’ for consumers on the English market, today comes in a granitic and sharp Brut version. Notes of custard inlay a nose dotted with white flowers and yellow fruits; the palate is greedy, round and never ends.
