Former partner of Conterno Fantino, Diego Conterno - now flanked by his son Stefano - started his own winery in Monforte. The vineyards have an exclusive position dominating the village from steep slopes. The Baluma selection is concentrated ruby in colour wit a restrained focus on pot-pourri, tar and strawberry and cherry fruits. Firm, tannic, extracted and powerful, it shines for its vibrant minerality, with a blood orange flavour and mid-palate density. Austere yet not dry on the finish, it's really a kind of baby Barolo, not ready to drink now but one for the long haul.
