A wonderfully intricate nose reveals its facets at a measured pace. Cedar melds with truffle and winter mint, then pressed rose and lilac lift the perfumes to sweeter heights. Constant throughout are the wild forest berries that provide the foundation for the rich, concentrated core. A touch of salted liquorice lends countering umami dimension and all the while, sculpted tannins slink seductively to a gripping crescendo. Beautiful and long. Made since 2011 from two rented plots totalling just 0.25ha, Altare’s Cannubi occupies just four barriques (one new, three used) for a production of less than 1,500 bottles.
