Founder Carlo Gancia created the first sparkling wine in Italy made from Moscato back in 1865, produced in the metodo classico style. The winery still makes this wine today using grapes from the Canellio subzone; fermented for 40 days in bottle then matured on the lees for 24 months. And who says Asti can't age? This 2012 vintage is still fresh and peachy, its aromas of cream, honey and grape leading to an incredibly decadent palate of sweet apricot drizzled in honey, a touch of sweet patisserie, lime, apricot and dried mango. There's a subtle leesy creaminess in the background and some good balancing acidity.
