From vines planted in Vignarionda in 2011, Ester Canale pays homage to Giovanni Rosso’s mother, who inherited this hallowed plot. It overreaches the humble Langhe Nebbiolo denomination both in the glass and in price. Intense violet merges with balsamic accents of rosemary and sage. Those floral notes pervade the midweight palate. Tight yet gracious, it is amply packed with sweet red berries. Sandalwood and tobacco drift in the background. Grainy tannins are rambunctious but should settle with a few more months in bottle.
