Erbaluce is a grape indigenous to Piedmont, with its own small DOCG in the area of Caluso. This example from Luca Leggero is vinified in stainless steel then aged for seven months in amphorae of different sizes. A bold and rich aroma reminiscent of lanolin, beeswax and white flowers leads to an intense, bright and spicy mouthful. Complex and viscous, it ranges from grilled pineapple and bruised apple to tangy lime juice, with an almost mushroomy element in the background. This is crying out for a creamy risotto topped with shavings of truffle.
