Pertinace is a kind of private cooperative, uniting 17 growers whose vineyards are mostly in Treiso. Some years ago, the winery indulged in barrique-ageing to satisfy American customers, but today almost all the wines are aged in large casks. 

The south-facing Nervo is gorgeously lush on the nose in 2016, exhibiting floral and red fruit aromas. It's supple but concentrated in the mouth, with positive underlying tannins to give grip and tension, and the finish is spicy and lively if not especially complex. This producer's Marcarini cru is equally fine, but in a more elegant and crisp style.
