Rizzi puts out a delightful trio of Barbaresco in 2023, but it is the Nervo that stole my heart this vintage. It hails from the estate’s prized Fondetta vineyard – a precipitous, sunny site on white calcareous marl. Gorgeous and pristine perfumes of orange, rose and cranberry swirl from the glass. It boasts an elegant flow and effortless balance. Lightweight but mouthfilling in flavours of raspberry and cherry, it is seamlessly knit and suggests a gentle, humble touch as expertly extracted tannins give just enough firmness of structure. The mineral, stony backbone reverberates.
