Francesco Rocca, who makes wine at the esteemed Bruno Rocca estate, has teamed up with his buddies, brothers Roberto and Giovanni Pasquero, to form San Barnaba. Crafted with fruit from the Barbaresco MGA of Cars and Serralunga’s Serra, this Langhe Nebbiolo is a feisty, peppery proposition. It opens up to raspberry and hibiscus with tart sumac berries and cranberries at the core. Light, streamlined and brisk, its puckering acidity pushes the fruit purity. Delicate yet tactile grapey tannins scrub the mouth. Difficult not to chug – and begging for some salumi.
