Barolo

This single vineyard Barolo, not only hails from the great 2001 vintage with its warm days and cool nights, but also an exceptional terroir in Serralunga d’Alba. The result is a wine of extraordinary finesse and balance as well as power, structure and ageing potential. Though Nebbiolo is not known for its depth of colour, this remains youthfully saturated with an almost inky opacity. And although this wine has been aged in new French oak barrels, such is the fruit intensity that it is barely noticeable. Instead, floral notes of roses and violets predominate on the nose. On the palate, this remains rich and youthful with teasing tannins and fine acidity. The layered fruit profile is classical and impressive – ranging from prunes, to spicy coffee bean liquorice, tar and nutmeg.
