Virna Borgogno is a trained oenologist, aided by her husband Giovanni Abrigo - himself a winemaker of great flair. She's a pragmatic modernist, ageing her wines in a blend of barriques and tonneaux. For some reason the nose was closed when tasted, but the palate is full of tension. The attack is delicate and pure, with lifting acidity and fine tannins that give a discreet texture. It's the intensity and length that impress, and this should age very well.
