Siddùra impressed me so much when I first came across the estate in 2016. The wines are lively, fresh and – just like the winery itself – super-stylish. Newly built in 2008, it sits right in the heart of Siddùra’s vineyards in Gallura, Sardinia’s only DOCG, where Vermentino grows on the area’s famous granite and clay soil. Bèru is an interesting variation on the estate’s classic Vermentino di Gallura; the team has given the wine some gentle oak treatment, which produces a fuller, rounder, creamier texture with some potential to age – all of this without losing its crunchy, green, vivid Vermentino identity. Handpicked and gently pressed, it ferments in small French oak barriques.
