The San Sano estate was purchased in 2014, and Antinori has completed the construction of a new winery here to vinify the San Sano and Buiano bottlings. It's a large 80ha estate which provides fruit for Villa Antinori Chianti Classico and Villa Antinori IGT, but the highest, one-hectare plot on calcareous soils is now used for this Gran Selezione Gaiole. Zippy and fresh yet softer and rounder than Villa Cigliano, its gentle aromatics and succulent forest fruits are underlined by creamy tones and notable salinity. Precise, and with a woody frame at present, this is perhaps the prettiest of Antinori's new trio of Gran Selezione wines.
