Representing the estate’s top Chianti Classico bottling, the Riserva is a blend from two plots – Buondonno’s oldest vines which face south, and a rented parcel that was planted in the 1970s to a northeastern exposure. Even with its hefty 15% alcohol, the 2022 reconciles ripeness and concentration with energy and liveliness. Faint whiffs of wood mingle with cinnamon, red cherry and dried lavender. The palate sees spiced red fruit repeating as well as cured meat and iron. Its fleshy texture is hemmed in by compact, grainy tannins. Good depth for mid-term ageing.
