<p>The harvest in 2005 started in the middle of September at the Merlot vineyard in Pelago, near Florence, concluding on 15 October after a mild season with cool but sunny weather. &#39;In some cases in the cellar, bleedings were necessary to compensate for the slight dilution of the grapes caused by the rains at the beginning of September,&#39; said winemaker Niccol&ograve; d&rsquo;Afflitto. The wine is blackish with ripe blueberry and almost jammy fruit alongside dark chocolate and a kind of Port-like concentration. The wine is more extracted than supple, with austere tannins accompanied by almost zesty acidity and a full, rich body. These were the years of fashionable concentration and extraction in Italy, as the powerful style of this Mormoreto well describes.</p>
