<p>Exceptional, perhaps the best in the last 50 years. A very favourable growing season with a rainy and dry spring, then a dry harvest,&#39; said the official Frescobaldi vintage report. It was a year in which the people of Florence could cross the Arno&rsquo;s river on foot twice: when frozen in the winter and dried out in the summer. Castello Nipozzano produced a Mormoreto based on Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc, with slightly higher yields of 40hl/ha yields and shorter oak ageing (18 instead of 24 months). The wine is dense garnet in colour. It&#39;s at first earthy but then it opens up to reveal aromas of rhubarb candy, dried mushrooms and truffle, with a youthful core of cherry fruit. On the palate it&rsquo;s firm and extracted, with still-aggressive tannins yet overall it&#39;s a chewy, crisp and refreshing style.</p>
