Planted in 1975, La Fornace sits on predominantly sandy soil. The warm southern exposure is evidenced in the rich ripe nose. It recalls prune plum and strawberry compote with scented summer blossoms wafting in the background. Midweight and agile, the palate is framed by suave, friendly tannins. Acidity is juicy and fresh, and pepper and liquorice punctuate the finish. There is something a bit naïve about this, but it is undeniably tasty and appealing now.
