This was a tricky vintage, with untimely rain during September when many estates were still harvesting. Consequently, some wines show dilution and even off-flavours. Yet Saffredi seems unscathed. Cabernet Sauvignon dominates the blend at 78%, plus 17% Merlot and 5% Alicante. The nose remains very oaky, though not especially evolved, and it's fragrant and intense. So is the palate, which is peppery, with good acidity yet no great persistence. It's lean and still very much alive, however, with a fresh finish.
