First produced in 1983, Rancia celebrates 40 years with this 2023 release, which coincides with the 60th anniversary of the estate. As much an expression of Fèlsina as it is of the luminous southern reaches of Castelnuovo Berardenga, it is all very sepia-toned, starting with its brickish hue. The nose evokes sunbaked earth, grilled thyme and terracotta, with flavours of savoury sundried tomato meets smoke-tinged plum. A charge of clay-textured tannins commands the hearty palate, and although they are slightly angular and austere for now, they particularly juxtapose with the mellowness of the fruit.
