Of Italian descent, Quebecoise Paula Papini Cook purchased this 7ha Gaiole-in-Chianti property in 2010. The area is marked by pronounced diurnal temperature variations and a rocky schistose soil. The wines tend to have a floral and mineral expression, and this 2015 Riserva, which hails from a south-facing parcel at the highest point of the vineyard, shows red plum, balsamic herb and liquorice. It's fairly weighty, with chewy tannins and integrated oak. Plenty of charisma.
