With candied citrus and ripe dark plum, Le Ragnaie’s old-vine bottling expresses the 50-year-old plot’s warm southwestern exposure more overtly than its fresh, 600-metre altitude – at least on the nose, where wood-driven nuances of vanilla and nutmeg accentuate its ripeness. The palate, however, shows a more savoury side with iron and dusty tobacco. Robustly built, it sports its signature powerful tannins and will need time in the cellar to harmonise. Picked on 1 October, a full two weeks earlier than in 2024.
