Dusty and savoury accents offset intense ripeness of dark berries. A sumptuous, exuberant, big-boned palate is abundantly packed, with tannins which lend some welcome tension and grip, although there's a touch of dryness to them. A nice gleam of acidity, then clove and cigar draw out the finish. It's not perfect but it is characterful, and seems determined to keep delivering. This vintage spent a little bit less time in wood – 18 months as opposed to 24.
