Bolgheri

What would Tuscan wine be without Bolgheri? As one of the appellation's founding members, Michele Satta is well placed to demonstrate. His Rosso does a great job of representing the DOC, with its blend of Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Syrah and Teroldego. The nose is rich and dark, with an intriguing note of maple and pecan pastry alongside crushed black, blue and red berrie, and a waft of herbs. The mouthfilling, juicy fruits carry with them some subtle structural tannins, and the maple and pecan pastry has morphed into a twist of caramel on the mid-palate,  extending onto the finish. Big and rich, it's nicely balanced with a long finish. Drink with game for a real treat.
