Alessandro Sderci started making wine as a hobby in the 1970s. 50 years later, he has grown the estate to a respectable 18ha and is joined by his son Edoardo. Crafted since 1981, Grosso Sanese is a 100% Sangiovese that sees long ageing in wood to tame its potent tannins. Oxidative in character without being tired, it speaks of territory rather than fruit. Aromas are redolent of brushwood, hazelnut and struck stone. The palate is sinewy in muscles with an angular frame and nervous tension. Warm alcohol pokes through. Rustic yet captivating and energetic.
