Alessandro Tofanari and Simona Orsini swapped city life in their native Florence and de-camped south to nearby San Gimignano to become the naturalistas of the region. As well as classic Vernaccia, they make skin contact or 'orange' wines from their two hectares of Vernaccia. Grapes for the Astrea bottling are destemmed and spend 36 hours on skins (the Murice bottling gets 10 days). The result is a gentle rather than tannic meditation wine, a fruit-filled white with appealing dried chamomile notes and a lightly bruised apple texture.
