S'Amfora San Cristoforo is an experimental project to investigate how the estate's Petit Verdot would mature underwater, spending nine months under the Mediterranean Sea at a depth of 15 metres in hand-crafted 75cl terracotta amphorae sealed with corks and wax. Aromas of black berries with hints of chocolate and herbs are followed in the mouth by a spicy yet smooth black and red fruit character, and a touch of charcuterie. It's quite concentrated and rich, yet has plenty of freshness too. The finish isn't quite as long and fresh as the 2018 in bottle: this seems denser and darker, with just a hint of terracotta minerality.
